Reports Say Tesla Plans to Launch "Robotaxis" in China, FSD Not Yet Fully Approved

Recently, Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s “lightning” visit to China has sparked discussions and speculation about “Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) entering China.”

According to China Daily, citing informed sources, in addition to seeking approval for launching its advanced FSD software in China, Musk proposed testing robotaxis during his recent visit to China.

However, the Chinese government has not yet fully approved the comprehensive implementation of FSD in China. Government officials expressed to Musk that China “welcomes Tesla to conduct some robotaxi testing” and hopes it will “set a good example.”

Referring to IT Home’s previous reports, companies such as Baidu Apollo Robotaxi (Luobo Kuaipao), AutoX, WeRide, Pony.ai, and DiDi have already participated in robotaxi service testing or operations in some Chinese cities.

Of course, most of these companies’ Robotaxi services are still in the testing phase, and for safety reasons, they usually have safety operators on board. With the maturation of technology and policy support, the service scope and operational level of robotaxis are expected to expand and improve further in the future.
